For making preserved food of skewered fishes by smoke of sunken hearth, as a deep local mingei art piece from Tohoku region. Showa period, 20th century. “Benkei” of its local common name derived from a legendary figure shot by many arrows in the scene of “Benkei’s standing death in the battle” (Benkei – Japanese warrior monk, 1155–1189). Besides its original usage, enjoy “benkei arrangement”, like sort of flower arrangement as recommended. (Its original bamboo sticks are removable.) approx.
