Ema of Blacksmith - Japanese Shinto votive plaque 19th century

Old wooden plaque with two iron hooks and an iron sword, pasted paper with hand-drawn ‘Torii’ (Shinto shrine archway) picture at upper front, which is a unique ‘Ema’ (lit. ‘Horse picture’/ Wishing plaque dedicated to Shinto shrine) made and dedicated by Japanese blacksmith to ward off conflagration. Conventionally as naturally, and aesthetically folksy-make with the spirit.

Total with hanging string – approx. H 41cm (16.14in), W 18.5cm (7.28in), D 2.6cm (1.02in)
