Threadbare Japanese mandala abstraction of delicate handknitting composed of bamboo sheaths, its thin strips, and indigo blue-colored washi paper, as hidden old mingei folk bamboo sheath hat used for farmwork or fishery, seen mostly in the western Japan categorized into a type of ‘Takenoko-gasa’ (lit; ‘Bamboo shoots hat’), but unusually larger (normally around 40cm) and thinner make backed with such blue paper as its rare arrangement and its refined ‘wabi’ color tone hardly seen. Taisho-Showa period, 20th century. In aesthetically well-used condition with lyrical damage as the highlight of this object itself. approx. D 62cm (24.40in), H 10cm (3.93in)
