Woodblock print talisman based on the cult of wolf guardian deity (‘Oinu-sama’) which was given to the people by the mountain ascetic of Mitsumine shrine in Chichibu, Saitama prefecture, circa early 20th century.
Besides this unique belief in ‘Shugendo’ (Japanese mountain asceticism-shamanism incorporating Shinto and Buddhist concepts), quite unusual touch of picture, as more like traditional Western style, somehow like Rembrandt etchings or so, with influence or with coincidence.
The condition is as seen, with predictable slight damage for use and age.

Total size in hanging position: approx. H 148cm (58.26in), W 44cm (17.32in)
